Ice skating in Faro

Last Saturday was the inauguration of Faro’s prime Christmas attraction, its very own ice skating rink. The 325m² rink, located in Pontinha Square, will be the only one in Faro as Forum Shopping have decided not to build one this year.

The ice skating rink and walkway cost Ambifaro €60,000 and the Mayor hopes some of the initial investment will be returned with the sale of tickets. A thirty minute session on the rink costs €2.50, €0.50 of which is being sent to the Food Bank: “We think that, in difficult economic times for everyone, we should have a social responsibility. The fifty cents represent this policy” said Faro Mayor José Apolinário.

Besides the ice rink, children will have lots of activities to enjoy during this festive season in Faro as the City also has giant inflatables, a Santa’s House, a Multimedia Library and a Science Shop, all spread out at various different venues throughout the Council. Close to the skating rink will also be a Christmas tree exhibition, all beautifully decorated by students from several primary schools in the council.

Faro’s Christmas entertainment schedule is a busy one this December; this Sunday is the 6th Invasion of the Small Santas, with an Avô Cantigas show, and on Monday is the Faro Fashion Christmas ’08, a fashion show which Fernando Mendes (presenter of Top+ RTP1 programme) will present.

A trip to Finland’s Lapland is also up for grabs to customers who spend over €20 in shops that have registered with the Council for the competition.
